The New York Prosecutor’s Office has ordered the creation of a grand jury to decide whether there are grounds to open a trial against former US President Donald Trump for possible crimes committed by his business conglomerate, the Trump Organization.

The Manhattan district attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. has recently issued the order, according to sources cited by ‘The Washington Post’, without further details being available at the moment. This grand jury is scheduled to meet three days a week for a period of six months. The news of the American newspaper has been published a week after the New York Prosecutor’s Office announced the opening of a criminal investigation against the Trump Organization, since the investigations opened for possible tax crimes include the alleged commission of crimes.

Trump has reacted to the reports from ‘The Washington Post’ stating that “it is a continuation of the greatest witch hunt in the history of the United States.” “It started the day I got off the escalator at Trump Tower and it has never stopped,” he said in a statement. In it, he criticized that “they spent two years and 48 million dollars in taxpayer funds on [Special Counsel Robert] Mueller and Russia, Russia, Russia, the farce of the first ‘impeachment’, the farce of the second ‘impeachment ‘and continues to this day, with confidential information leaked illegally.

“No other president in history has been subjected to what I have done and, furthermore, I have done a great job for the country, be it taxes, regulations, the Army, veterans, the Special Force, borders, the rapid creation of a great vaccine, which is said to be a miracle, and protect the second amendment [of the Constitution], ”he said.

“Corrupted and stolen”

For this reason, Trump has stressed that “this is pure politics” and “an affront to the almost 75 million voters” who bet on him in the November 2020 presidential elections. “It is being promoted by highly partisan Democratic prosecutors”, has criticized. “The city and state of New York face the highest crime rates in their history and, instead of going after murderers, drug traffickers, human traffickers and others, they are going after Donald Trump,” he valued.

Trump has also pointed out that it is “interesting” that a poll puts him “very much in the lead in the face of the Republican primaries and the general elections of 2024”, before noting that “the country is broken, the elections are manipulated, corrupt and stolen , the prosecutors are politicized. “I will continue fighting as I have done for the last five years,” he has riveted.

It is not the first time that Trump has referred to the investigations against him in this way. Already in February he described as “fascist” and promoted “for political reasons” the investigations into possible personal tax crimes and his emporium, after the Supreme Court dismissed his appeal to avoid the delivery of his tax returns for the last eight years to a New York court.

Trump has several open judicial fronts, but one of the most important is the fraud investigation that the state of New York is developing on the businesses of the North American tycoon, without any relation to the decisions taken since he came to power in 2016.

Specifically, the New York Prosecutor’s Office examines possible crimes linked to the Trump Organization, the business conglomerate that Trump founded, suspected of falsifying records, tax fraud or insurance fraud.

On the other hand, the attorney general of New York, Letitia James, investigates four real estate projects of the Trump Organization and its failed attempt to buy the Buffalo Bills rugby team. The investigations are in this case civil, not criminal, but it is not ruled out that they may be diverted to the other route if indications arise.
