The search engine giant Google may soon have to prepare for strong competition. According to insiders, the AI company OpenAI is about to introduce its own AI search engine based on the ChatGPT chatbot , as reported by the Times of India , among others . The new search engine will therefore be presented at an event on May 9, 2024 – a few days before the Google conference Google I/O, which will take place on May 14, 2024.
OpenAI with an eye-catching new URL addition
In addition to the insider reports, OpenAI’s recent activities also indicate that the AI expert is actually working on implementing its own search engine. X-Users have recently increasingly come across the URL “search.chatgpt.com” in the publicly accessible logs of OpenAI’s SSL certificates. They were added on April 24, 2024. And OpenAI boss Sam Altman has also recently shown interest in developing his own AI search.
OpenAI boss wants to reinvent web search
In a podcast interview with Lex Fridman back in March 2024, Altman explained: “If the question is whether we can build a better search engine than Google or whatever, then we definitely should.” Altman definitely sees room for improvement: “Google shows you ten blue links, or rather: 13 ads and ten blue links. Maybe there is a much better way to help people find, use and summarize information.” So far, no one has successfully managed to combine large language models and search engines. Altman would like to overcome this challenge. However, it remains to be seen whether OpenAI will actually present its own AI search engine on May 9, 2024.
